Srinagar, May 13: The Council of Ministers headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved the establishment of an 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Project at Achan in Srinagar at an estimated cost of ₹361 crore.
The decision was taken during the 6th meeting of the Council of Ministers with the aim of strengthening scientific waste management infrastructure in the city and ensuring sustainable processing and disposal of municipal solid waste.
Officials said the project is designed to significantly enhance Srinagar’s waste processing capacity through modern systems of collection, segregation, treatment, and scientific disposal, contributing to improved sanitation standards and reduced environmental pollution.
The proposed facility at Achan is expected to play a key role in addressing the growing waste management requirements of Srinagar, particularly in view of rapid urban expansion and population growth.
Authorities added that the initiative will support long-term urban planning and environmental sustainability while ensuring cleaner and healthier living conditions for residents of the city.
