Bill Seeks to Align J&K’s GST Law with Recent Amendments in CGST
J&K Government Introduces First Bill in Legislative Assembly to Align GST Law with Central Amendments
Jammu & Kashmir’s elected government introduced its first bill in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday, marking a significant legislative move.
Following the Question Hour, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, on behalf of Finance Minister Omar Abdullah, introduced the Jammu & Kashmir Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in the House.
The proposed legislation aims to align J&K’s GST law with amendments made in the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act. The changes are regulatory in nature, focused on tax administration, and do not involve any recurring or non-recurring expenditures.
Since the imposition of central rule in J&K in 2018, legislative powers had been vested with Parliament. With the return of an elected government, the introduction of the GST amendment bill marks the first major legislative exercise in the newly restored assembly.
