Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday alleged that the National Conference (NC) government in Jammu and Kashmir made around 25,000 “backdoor appointments” over the past 25 months without following proper recruitment procedures.
Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Mufti claimed she possesses official orders related to the appointments but chose not to reveal the names of those appointed for their protection. She alleged that no interviews were conducted and that the recruitments were made across various government departments.
The former Chief Minister further alleged that the posts were distributed through ministers, MLAs and alliance partners, claiming that outsourcing agencies were used to facilitate the appointments without issuing public advertisements.
Mufti also claimed her party received complaints alleging that some candidates paid between ₹2 lakh and ₹3 lakh to secure jobs. According to her, nearly 200 private outsourcing agencies were involved in the recruitment process.
She demanded an immediate halt to what she described as “backdoor appointments” and called for an investigation, stating that action should be taken if any irregularities are found.
Commenting on the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley, Mufti said their return was a positive development but alleged that certain groups were trying to “weaponise” their pain for political purposes. She urged all communities to focus on reconciliation and the future.
