Kishtwar/Jammu, January 24, 2026: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo has sought urgent intervention to mitigate the hardships faced by people following heavy snowfall across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in District Kishtwar, where normal life has been severely disrupted due to blocked roads and prolonged disruption of essential services.
A delegation from District Kishtwar met MP Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and submitted a memorandum detailing the grim situation on the ground. The delegation informed him that several important roads remain closed due to heavy accumulation of snow, causing immense hardship to the local population, especially in far-flung and snowbound areas.
The delegation further highlighted that many areas of Kishtwar district have been without electricity for the last two days. The prolonged power outage has badly affected daily life, healthcare services, water supply schemes, and communication facilities, compounding the suffering of people amid freezing temperatures.
Due to road closures, in rural areas the residents are also facing shortages of essential commodities, particularly ration and life-saving medicines. Elderly persons, patients, women, and children are reportedly facing health-related challenges as access to medical facilities and supplies remains restricted.
MP Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo patiently listened to the grievances of the delegation and assured them of his full support. He stated that he has taken up the matter with the District Administration and strongly urged them to take immediate and effective measures to restore road connectivity, resume electricity supply, and ensure timely delivery of essential supplies to the affected population.
Heavy snowfall has impacted several districts across Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the closure of major and link roads, disruption of power supply, and suspension of transport services in hilly areas. Snow clearance operations are underway at vulnerable locations; however, intermittent snowfall and adverse weather conditions continue to hamper restoration efforts.
The Rajya Sabha MP emphasized the need for coordinated and swift action by all concerned departments to ensure early restoration of essential services and timely relief to the affected people.
