Srinagar, Mar 7: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the safe return of students from Jammu and Kashmir stranded in Iran amid a rapidly deteriorating situation.
In a post on X, Mufti, a former chief minister of the erstwhile state, highlighted that thousands of students from the Union Territory are currently stuck in Iran and require immediate government intervention.
“Urge PM @narendramodi ji for his personal intervention to ensure their safe passage home & also @MEAIndia @DrSJaishankar to initiate evacuation efforts at the earliest,” she tweeted.
Mufti stressed that the safety and well-being of these students must be prioritized, calling for swift coordination between the Ministry of External Affairs and other concerned authorities to facilitate evacuation and bring them back safely to India.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in Iran, where escalating tensions in the region have left foreign students, including those from Jammu and Kashmir, vulnerable and stranded. (Agency)
