Jammu May 20, 2026: In a major breakthrough against cross-border narcotics smuggling, police in the Bishnah sector of the Jammu Headquarters Zone on Wednesday recovered a massive heroin consignment weighing approximately 1.5 to 2 kilograms that had allegedly been dropped through a drone near the border area.
According to officials, the operation was carried out on the basis of precise intelligence inputs developed over the past week. Acting swiftly, police teams had maintained strict round-the-clock surveillance and heightened vigil across suspected sectors to monitor any suspicious activity.
The sustained intelligence-based operation yielded results when the suspected narcotics payload was intercepted and seized before it could reach its intended handlers, dealing a significant blow to the cross-border smuggling network.
Officials said a team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was being rushed to the spot to conduct scientific examination of the recovered material and collect crucial evidence for further investigation.
Police sources said the successful operation reflects the intensified efforts of Jammu Police to crack down on the narco-terror network and prevent the use of advanced methods such as drone-based smuggling for transporting drugs and other illegal consignments from across the border.
A detailed investigation has been launched to establish both forward and backward linkages of the suspected Pakistan-based smuggling network and identify individuals involved in the chain.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
