Police recover pistols, heroin and cash; accused linked to cross-border network

Chandigarh, Feb 9: Punjab Police on Monday busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of five persons in Amritsar, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.

Police recovered six pistols, 10 cartridges, 115 grams of heroin and ₹11.90 lakh in cash during the operation.

“In an intelligence-led operation under #GangstranTeVaar, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module, arrested five accused, and recovered six sophisticated pistols, 10 live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin and ₹11.90 lakh in drug money,” Yadav said in a post on X.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were actively linked to a cross-border smuggling network and were involved in illegal arms and drug trafficking, the DGP said.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station Cantonment in Amritsar under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace both forward and backward linkages, he added.(Agencies)
