CT University VC Removed Following Alleged Misbehavior with Kashmiri Students

Ludhiana, Feb 25: CT University Vice-Chancellor Nitin Tandon was removed on Tuesday following allegations of misbehaving with a group of Kashmiri students, Chancellor Charanjit Singh Channi said. The private university has also initiated an internal probe into the matter, while local authorities continue to monitor the situation.

The students alleged that on Monday (Feb 23, 2026), they requested arrangements for sehri and iftar in the university mess during Ramzan. According to them, Mr. Tandon responded with abusive language and threatened to cancel their admissions. In protest, the students raised slogans at the university demanding action against the VC.

Channi confirmed that Tandon’s services had been terminated and a committee, led by the Jagraon Sub-Divisional Magistrate, has been formed to investigate the incident.

Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain said the district administration, in coordination with the Ludhiana Rural Senior Superintendent of Police and community leaders, resolved the matter amicably. The students called off their agitation after the administration ordered a thorough inquiry.

The issue was first highlighted by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti, who shared a video on X showing the Kashmiri students alleging misconduct by the VC. She urged Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take strict action.

“Dear @BhagwantMann ji, do you endorse the Vice Chancellor of CT University abusing and bullying Kashmiri Muslim students only because they requested food for Iftari & Sehri during Ramzan? Shocked that assaulting Kashmiris has been normalised even in Punjab. We request strict action. Anything else is mere lip service,” Iltija wrote.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association also sought CM Mann’s intervention. National convenor Nasir Khuehami said complaints received from students indicated they were threatened with eviction and cancellation of admissions for requesting meals at appropriate timings during Ramzan.

Khuehami emphasized that the students are regular, fee-paying boarders who merely requested necessary meal arrangements. “No student should face hostility, threats, or coercion for following their faith. Universities must be safe and inclusive spaces that uphold constitutional values, dignity, and equal treatment for all, regardless of region, religion, or background,” he said. (Agency)
