The search for terrorists hiding in the forested areas of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir has entered its final stages, a senior police officer said on Wednesday, marking the 13th day of the operation.
Since the operation began on August 1 in the Akhal forest area, two Army soldiers have been killed and nine others injured.
Two terrorists have also been killed in the encounter. The identities and group affiliations of the slain terrorists have not been disclosed so far.
“The Akhal operation has entered its final stages,” Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi, told reporters on Wednesday during the full dress rehearsal for Independence Day celebrations at Bakshi Stadium.
He added that further details of the operation would be shared in due course.
This marks the longest anti-terror operation in the Kashmir Valley in recent years.
Birdi also said that the full dress rehearsal and security drills ahead of Independence Day were completed successfully.
“The main programme takes place in Srinagar city, where VVIPs take the salute. For that, Srinagar Police has put multi-tier arrangements in place along with CAPFs. High-rise spotters are also deployed, and comprehensive security measures have been ensured,” the officer said. (Agencies)
