The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kishtwar, Shri Naresh Kumar (JKPS), as part of the ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign aimed at curbing the rising drug menace in the district.

As per police reports, a patrolling team from Police Station Warwan, led by SHO Insp. Zaheer Iqbal, was conducting routine patrol duties near village Mungli when they intercepted an individual and recovered the contraband substance from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Abrar Hussain, son of Manzoor Ahmed Mahroo, resident of Sheikhpura Inshan, Tehsil Warwan. Following the recovery, a case FIR No. 08/2025 under the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Warwan, and the accused has been taken into custody.

Notably, Warwan is among the remotest parts of Kishtwar District, connected to Anantnag through the Matigawran–Margan Top road — a route that remains cut off for nearly 4–5 months every winter due to heavy snowfall. Police suspect that the seized stock could have been part of a planned dumping operation, intended for illegal sale to local youths during the winter isolation period.

The timely action by Kishtwar Police has likely prevented a potential influx of narcotics in the valley and saved many innocent youths from falling prey to drug addiction.

Kishtwar Police reaffirmed their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics, pledging continued vigilance and community-oriented efforts to ensure a drug-free and safe society.
