Kishtwar, 27 March 2026: On the initiative and directions of Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu, the Kishtwar Campus organized a Mega Plantation Drive along with a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Cleanliness Drive), aimed at promoting environmental conservation and fostering a culture of cleanliness on the campus.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Jasbir Singh, Director, Kishtwar Campus, who joined the event virtually and addressed the participants. In his address, he highlighted the critical importance of afforestation and emphasized the urgent need to plant more trees to mitigate environmental degradation and combat the growing threats of global warming. He also elaborated on the causes and consequences of climate change and urged the campus community to act as responsible stewards of the environment.
The event successfully integrated two key themes—promotion of ecological sustainability through plantation and reinforcement of cleanliness practices in line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Participants took a pledge to maintain cleanliness on the campus and to nurture and protect the newly planted saplings.
The initiative was spearheaded by Dr. Hilal Sufi of the Department of Kashmiri under the guidance of the campus administration. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff, all of whom contributed collectively towards making the campus greener and cleaner.
Dr. Hilal Sufi expressed his sincere gratitude to all participants for their active involvement, which ensured the success of the programme.
The initiative reflects the University of Jammu’s continued commitment to promoting environmental responsibility, sustainability, and civic consciousness among its students and staff.
