New Delhi, September 26: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday remembered former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on his birth anniversary, paying tribute to his contribution to India’s nation-building and economic reforms.
In a social media post, Kharge recalled Singh’s role in shaping India’s economic trajectory and highlighted the significance of the reforms associated with his tenure as Finance Minister and Prime Minister. Kharge described Singh’s economic reforms as a major contribution to creating new opportunities and supporting economic growth.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was born on September 26, 1932, served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Earlier, as Finance Minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government, he played a central role in the economic reform programme launched in 1991.
Kharge also recalled Singh’s emphasis on inclusive growth and welfare-oriented governance, while paying tribute to his public life and legacy.
The former Prime Minister died in December 2024 at the age of 92. His role in India’s economic reforms and his years in public life have continued to be acknowledged across political parties.
