JPDCL cracks down on power theft in Jammu, disconnects illegal connections

Enforcement drive in Channi Himmat detects power theft, meter tampering and unauthorized electricity usage in commercial establishments.

Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) on Tuesday launched an extensive inspection and enforcement drive in Sector-02, Channi Himmat area of Jammu to curb power theft, unauthorized electricity usage and meter tampering.

The drive was carried out under the jurisdiction of Sub Division Green Belt, Gandhi Nagar of Electric Division-II, Jammu, by a special enforcement team constituted by the Superintending Engineer, O&M Circle Jammu.

Led by Assistant Engineer Vishal Kumar Langeh, the inspection team checked around 20 electricity consumers, including domestic and commercial installations, to identify violations related to illegal electricity consumption.

During the inspection, three establishments were found involved in illegal use of electricity and their power supply was disconnected on the spot. Officials stated that the violators included prominent commercial establishments located along the main road of Sector-02, Channi Himmat.

The inspection further revealed that ten commercial consumers were using electricity beyond their sanctioned load, causing significant revenue loss to the government. Penal action was initiated immediately and the sanctioned load of the consumers was revised according to actual electricity usage.

The enforcement team also detected two cases of damaged electricity meters and one case of meter bypassing, indicating deliberate tampering and unauthorized usage.

Officials said necessary penal proceedings under relevant rules and regulations have been initiated against all violators.

JPDCL reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against power theft, meter tampering and unauthorized electricity consumption. The Corporation stated that enforcement drives have been intensified across Jammu division and similar inspections will continue on a regular basis to prevent revenue losses and ensure responsible electricity usage.
