Srinagar, September 24: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather questioned Transport Minister Satish Sharma over the practice of providing multiple government vehicles to officers holding additional departmental charges. The issue came up during the ongoing Autumn Session of the Assembly.
Rather sought an explanation as to why an officer assigned responsibility for more than one department should require separate vehicles for each department. The Transport Minister described the arrangement as a “legacy issue” and assured the House that the government would examine the matter and take corrective steps.
The Speaker questioned whether a practice should continue simply because it had existed for years. He also raised concerns about the use of public resources, particularly at a time when the government is facing financial constraints.
Rather directed Minister Satish Sharma to furnish detailed information before the House during the ongoing session. Sharma assured the Speaker that the matter would be studied and that complete details would be provided.
The discussion has brought renewed attention to the management of government vehicles and the use of public resources by officials holding multiple responsibilities.
