DC Reasi Flags Off Awareness Vehicle Under SMILE Scheme to Curb Beggary

Campaign promotes rehabilitation and social inclusion of vulnerable groups

Reasi, May 14: In a significant step towards rehabilitation and social inclusion of vulnerable sections, the District Administration Reasi in collaboration with Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre Society today launched a district-wide awareness campaign under the SMILE (Support for Marginalized Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise) Scheme.

Deputy Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek flagged off an awareness vehicle from the DC Office Complex aimed at sensitising the public about the objectives of the scheme and discouraging the practice of beggary in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said the administration is consistently working on rehabilitation initiatives to ensure dignified livelihood opportunities and social reintegration for vulnerable individuals.

He informed that the awareness vehicle will travel across various parts of the district to educate people about the ill effects of beggary and highlight support mechanisms available under the SMILE scheme. The campaign will also promote community participation in welfare and rehabilitation efforts.

The DC further stated that under the SMILE scheme, 85 children rescued from beggary have already been rehabilitated at designated centres in the district.

Officials including Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Nitin Verma, District Social Welfare Officer and other officers were present on the occasion.
