The Jammu and Kashmir Government is examining the possibility of reintroducing or extending the Power Amnesty Scheme for domestic electricity consumers, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said during the ongoing Assembly session. The earlier scheme ended on March 31, 2026, after providing a waiver of interest and surcharge on eligible outstanding dues.
Omar Abdullah said the matter is being examined on merit, with possible relief for people living below the poverty line and other underprivileged consumers on a case-to-case basis. He also cautioned that repeated blanket waivers could discourage consumers from paying electricity bills on time.
