JAMMU: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana today chaired a high-level meeting to review water supply management and infrastructure development across Jammu Province.
The meeting held in-depth deliberations on the status of various water supply schemes and focused on strategies to augment them to ensure adequate and sustainable water resources for the population.
Among those present were Chief Engineer PHE Jammu, Vikas Sharma, and Superintending Engineers Ajay Sharma and Sunil Gandotra, along with other senior officials of the department.
Addressing the officials, the Minister stressed the timely completion of ongoing Water Supply Schemes, with a special focus on expediting works under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). He emphasized that the delivery of safe and potable drinking water to every household remains a top priority for the government.
Highlighting the need for a swift and efficient response mechanism to address any disruptions in water supply, Rana directed officials to enhance their field-level coordination and ensure minimal inconvenience to the public.
The meeting also underscored the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance of water storage tanks to prevent contamination and ensure water quality. The Minister instructed the concerned departments to ensure that filtration plants remain fully operational, as they are essential for delivering clean and safe water to communities.
A major point of discussion was the implementation of an effective groundwater recharge strategy, aimed at enhancing the sustainability and long-term availability of water resources in the region.
Rana also called for the urgent repair of defunct handpumps, which continue to serve as a vital water source in many rural and semi-urban areas.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s leadership, the Minister said that all necessary steps will be taken to strengthen water infrastructure and ensure efficient service delivery to the people of Jammu & Kashmir.(As per media sources)
