Over 83,000 Domicile Certificates Issued to Non-Locals in J&K in Two Years: Govt

Jammu, April 9: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday revealed that a total of 83,742 domicile certificates have been issued to non-state subjects in the Union Territory over the past two years.

The information was shared in a written reply to legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Para, who had sought details regarding the number of domicile certificates granted to non-locals across J&K.

According to the government’s response, a total of 35,12,184 domicile certificates have been issued in the last two years throughout the Union Territory. Of these, 83,742 were granted to individuals from outside the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister Incharge stated.

The data has sparked interest amid ongoing discussions on demographic changes and the implementation of the domicile law post the abrogation of Article 370.
