Jammu, Feb 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted Joint Surprise Checks (JSCs) at various locations across Jammu Division following complaints of large-scale illegal mining activities. The Bureau had received allegations that several mining block holders (lessees), in connivance with certain officers and officials of the Mining and Ecological Departments, were carrying out illegal mining in blatant violation of rules and regulations.

To verify these complaints and curb illegal practices, ACB constituted special teams which conducted extensive inspections at stone crushers located at Bajalta (Jammu), Gandyal (Kathua), Kaller Rajouri and Doongi (Rajouri). The teams also inspected the District Mineral Office Rajouri and mining blocks at Saranu (Rajouri), Anji (Reasi) and Arnas (Reasi).

During the course of the Joint Surprise Checks, most of the stone crushers and mining block holders were found allegedly indulging in illegal mining activities and violating the terms and conditions of their leases. Such violations have reportedly caused ecological degradation in the concerned areas.

ACB teams seized mobile phones, computers and relevant documents/records from the inspected sites. The seized material is presently under scrutiny to ascertain the extent of irregularities and possible collusion.

Meanwhile, in connection with investigation of FIR No. 02/2026 registered at Police Station ACB Central against Inspector Vijay Choudhary, searches were also conducted at multiple residential and commercial premises in Jammu and Rajouri districts, including properties at Santokh Vihar Kaluchak, Nonial Nowshera, GTB Nagar Channi Rama, Marjali Gharota, Tutte Di Khui Bajalta, Channi Himmat and Bahu Plaza Jammu.

Further investigation in the matter is underway.
