Srinagar: The budget session of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to resume on Friday, with the approval of the budget on the day’s agenda.
The House will reconvene after a gap of over a month to take up pending legislative business, including Appropriation Bills, Government Bills, Private Member Bills, and Private Member Resolutions.
According to the business schedule issued by the Assembly Secretariat, three Appropriation Bills will be introduced by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio. These bills are listed for consideration and passage. Their approval will mark the conclusion of the budgetary process in Jammu & Kashmir, which began with the presentation of a Rs 1,13,767 crore budget by Chief Minister Abdullah on February 6.
Following the budget presentation, the House discussed grants for various departments before breaking for a long recess on February 19, coinciding with the start of the holy month of Ramadhan.
During the last seven sittings of the session, attention will focus on government bills, with several important legislations expected to be tabled. The House will also consider Private Member Bills and Resolutions, with 72 bills scheduled for introduction and 14 resolutions selected through a draw of lots.
Additionally, the House will hold a short discussion on the issue of fake news and misinformation, highlighting their serious implications for governance, public accountability, social harmony, cyber security, and the functioning of democracy. (Agency)
