New Delhi, September 26: India sharply responded to Pakistan at the United Nations on Saturday, rejecting remarks made by Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the UN General Assembly and accusing Islamabad of repeatedly presenting what New Delhi described as false narratives.
Exercising India’s Right of Reply, Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism remained at the centre of the dispute between the two countries.
Gahlot said India had demonstrated that terrorists would have “nowhere to run and nowhere to hide” and warned that terrorism emanating from Pakistan would have consequences. India also reiterated its stated right to defend itself against terrorism.
The Indian representative accused Pakistan of using international platforms to repeat allegations against India and Jammu and Kashmir. She said repeatedly making claims does not make them true, while describing Pakistan’s approach as involving “terrorism, deceit and duplicity.”
The exchange came after Sharif raised issues including Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty during his UN address, prompting a strong response from New Delhi.
India’s latest intervention reflects the continuing diplomatic confrontation between the two neighbours at international forums, particularly over terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty.
