IAF Concludes AN-32 Kargil Courier Service for the Season; 3,192 Passengers Airlifted
Jammu, April 15: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday concluded its AN-32 Kargil Courier service for the season by airlifting 41 passengers between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, an official said.
Launched on February 8, the Kargil Courier Service was initiated to provide vital connectivity for stranded passengers following the closure of the 434-kilometre Srinagar-Leh National Highway due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
The air service operated between the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar and Ladakh’s Kargil district, facilitating essential travel during the harsh winter months.
According to the official, a total of 3,192 passengers benefitted from the service this season. Of these, 1,370 passengers were flown from Jammu to Kargil and 289 from Kargil to Jammu. Additionally, 1,211 passengers were transported from Srinagar to Kargil, while 322 travelled from Kargil to Srinagar.
The Kargil Courier has been a crucial lifeline for residents and travelers during winter, ensuring essential connectivity when road access remains cut off for months.
