A 24-year-old woman from Haryana’s Fatehabad has alleged that she was gang-raped at a farmhouse in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district after being lured with the promise of visiting religious places. Police have arrested two Uttar Pradesh Police personnel and two CRPF personnel in connection with the case.
According to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman was contacted by a female acquaintance on September 20 and was allegedly asked to meet a CRPF personnel for a visit to religious sites in Amroha. She met him in Sonipat on September 21, after which they travelled to Meerut, where another CRPF personnel joined them.
Police said that on the evening of September 22, the men allegedly took the woman to Hasanpur by car and picked up a UP Police sub-inspector on the way. They then allegedly took her to a farmhouse on the Atrasi-Hasanpur road and rented two rooms.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that three of the accused sexually assaulted her one after another. She further alleged that the fourth accused attempted to assault her, but she resisted, pushed him away and locked herself inside the room. She subsequently found a police helpline number online and contacted authorities at around 6 a.m.
Police teams from Hasanpur and Rajabpur reached the farmhouse, rescued the woman and arrested all four accused. An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions relating to abduction/enticement and gang rape, and the accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
The UP Police sub-inspector has been suspended and departmental proceedings initiated, while a report concerning the two CRPF personnel has been sent to their senior authorities for further disciplinary action. Police have also questioned the farmhouse manager as part of the ongoing investigation.
Note: The allegations are under investigation, and the accused are entitled to due process and a presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
