Jammu, Feb 18: The government on Wednesday informed the House that tenders for the proposed Mughal Road Tunnel (Pir-ki-Gali Tunnel) will be issued only after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is approved and all statutory clearances are obtained.

Replying to a question by MLA Ch. Mohammad Akram regarding the tunnel project, the Minister in charge, said the alignment proposal submitted by DPR consultant M/s SMEC (India) Pvt. Ltd. was discussed with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRT&H) on January 21, 2026.

The government stated that the DPR consultant will begin preparing the Detailed Project Report only after the alignment is approved by MoRT&H.

It further clarified that tenders for the tunnel project will be invited only after the DPR receives MoRT&H approval and all required statutory clearances, including those related to forest, wildlife, and land acquisition, are obtained in accordance with rules. (Agency)
