Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on both the ruling BJP and the National Conference (NC), accusing them of serving their own interests while ignoring the people’s suffering.
“The government is a total failure. It has only benefited MLAs who reached the Assembly — not the people who voted for them,” Bukhari told reporters at a press conference in Srinagar.
He said despite controlling both Kashmir and parts of Jammu, the administration has failed to deliver on any of its promises. “People continue to suffer while elected representatives enjoy power and privilege,” he added.
Bukhari pointed to the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway as the “clearest proof” of the government’s inefficiency. “If there’s one example that exposes BJP’s failure, it’s the condition of our national highway — the lifeline of J&K,” he remarked.
Taking aim at the NC, Bukhari said the party’s “helplessness despite claiming majority” has only deepened public despair. “They say they have the numbers, yet they claim they can’t act. What’s the point of such leadership?” he asked.
Recounting Apni Party’s role after the abrogation of Article 370, Bukhari said his party secured protection for land rights while others played “emotional politics.”
He warned that the ongoing political infighting and weak governance could endanger the future of J&K’s youth. “If this continues, our children will pay the price for the leaders’ power games,” he cautioned.
Bukhari said the “true faces” of all major parties — including the BJP, NC, and PDP — now stand exposed. “The BJP cannot pretend it’s not in power here; it has run J&K from Delhi, yet couldn’t even secure flood relief for people,” he said.
On the upcoming Budgam and Nagrota by-elections, Bukhari said the results would not bring major change but urged people to “vote for truth and honesty.” He added that Apni Party will soon announce its candidate for the Budgam seat after internal consultations.
