CHANDIGARH: A rumour about alleged screams being heard from a girls’ hostel at Panjab University triggered panic and drew a large crowd of students outside the campus, with claims of a “ghost” presence spreading rapidly among students.
The incident created considerable anxiety around the hostel area, with students gathering in large numbers as speculation intensified. However, the alleged paranormal claims remain unverified, and there is no confirmed evidence establishing that a supernatural incident took place.
Panjab University’s Savitri Bai Phule girls’ hostel has been the subject of ghost-related rumours in the past. In 2008, reports said students claimed to have heard shouting and reported seeing a mysterious figure around the hostel, while university authorities said their checks had found nothing substantial.
The latest episode has once again brought attention to how quickly rumours can spread on university campuses, particularly when students are already concerned about safety inside hostels.
