SRINAGAR, September 28: Four legislators—two from the BJP and two from the Congress—were marshalled out of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday amid heated exchanges, sloganeering and disruption of proceedings.
BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Arvind Gupta, along with Congress MLAs Irfan Hafeez Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed, were escorted out by Assembly marshals after protests intensified on the floor of the House.
The uproar came during proceedings on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir. BJP members protested references to the 2000 autonomy resolution, while Congress members raised slogans and displayed a banner demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather repeatedly warned members to maintain discipline and said strict action would be taken against those disrupting proceedings. The situation escalated as members continued slogan-shouting and protests
