The 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project, being developed on the Chenab River in Kishtwar district, is among the major hydropower projects currently under construction in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the Doda–Kishtwar stretch of NH-244 was blocked near Prem Nagar after flash floods triggered by the early morning downpour brought a large quantity of debris onto the highway. Several vehicles parked along the roadside were also buried under the debris.

The National Highways authorities and district administration have pressed men and machinery into service to clear the highway and restore traffic movement at the earliest. Commuters have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel on the route until the road is reopened.
