Excise Department destroys illegal poppy cultivation across Central Kashmir under anti-drug drive

Joint operation with police, revenue and agriculture teams intensifies crackdown under Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan

SRINAGAR, MAY 11: The Central Kashmir Excise Range has intensified its crackdown against illicit narcotic cultivation by destroying illegal poppy crops at multiple locations across the Srinagar–Budgam–Ganderbal belt as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.

The enforcement action was carried out in coordination with the Police, Revenue, and Agriculture Departments, targeting identified patches of illegal poppy cultivation.

During the drive, illegal crops were destroyed at several sites, including Aulipora Chadoora in Budgam district. Officials said the action was taken following field verification and surveillance inputs.

In this connection, FIR No. 58/2026 under Sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chadoora, and further investigation has been initiated.

Authorities confirmed that all legal procedures, including seizure, sampling, and on-spot destruction of the illicit crop, were completed as per established protocol.

The Excise Department reiterated its commitment to eliminating illegal cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances, stating that strict enforcement actions will continue under the supervision of senior excise authorities in Kashmir.
