Shopian, May 08: In a continued crackdown against illegal pharmaceutical drug trade, the Drug Control Department Shopian, in coordination with Drug Control Department Pulwama and police counterparts, seized a major consignment of 6000 Pregabalin 300 mg capsules worth approximately ₹2,53,000 in Shopian district.
The action follows earlier recovery of 200 Pregabalin capsules from Batpora Shopian, based on which further investigation and surveillance led to the detection of the larger consignment being transported for illegal sale and distribution.
Officials said the operation was carried out after specific inputs were developed by the Drug Control Office Shopian, leading to swift interception of the suspected individuals and seizure of the contraband.
Pregabalin, a controlled pharmaceutical substance, has increasingly been misused, raising serious public health and social concerns. Authorities noted that strict surveillance and enforcement measures have been intensified to curb its illegal trade, transportation, and misuse.
The seizure was made after sustained tracking and verification of leads generated from the earlier crackdown, with enforcement teams closely monitoring suspected movement of drug consignments in the region.
Officials further stated that strict monitoring of pharmaceutical distribution channels is ongoing, and similar enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to curb illegal drug activity.
The administration and enforcement agencies have maintained heightened vigilance on the illegal movement of habit-forming drugs, with a strong focus on protecting youth from substance abuse.
The public has also been urged to cooperate with authorities and report any credible information regarding illegal drug trade to ensure timely action against offenders.
