Doda: Illegal Poppy Cultivation Unearthed in Tipri; Two FIRs Registered Under NDPS Act

Doda, April 16: Continuing its sustained drive against drug-related activities, Doda Police has busted illegal poppy cultivation in the Tipri area of Tehsil Thathri and registered two separate cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The action was initiated after PSI Sahil Verma, while on routine patrol in the area under Police Station Thathri, received specific inputs regarding unlawful poppy farming by certain individuals. Acting promptly on the information, police teams carried out verification and confirmed the illegal cultivation.

During the operation, Nazir Ahmed, son of Gh. Mohd, and Tanveer Ahmed, son of Mohd Sadiq—both residents of Tipri, Tehsil Thathri—were found to have cultivated poppy plants in their agricultural fields in violation of the NDPS Act.

Subsequently, two separate FIRs were registered at Police Station Thathri. FIR No. 28/2026 and FIR No. 29/2026 have been lodged under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation into the matter is underway.

Police officials stated that strict legal action will be taken against all those involved in illegal cultivation and related offences. They reiterated that the department remains committed to eliminating the drug menace from the district.

Doda Police has also appealed to the public to assist law enforcement agencies by sharing information about any such unlawful activities, thereby helping in building a safer and drug-free society.
