A major data breach has exposed records of more than 41,000 employees and contractors working for the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including immigration agents, border security personnel and undercover investigators.

The leaked database reportedly contains names, email addresses, phone numbers, office locations, job titles and details of internal assignments. Employees from several agencies, including US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), are among those affected.

The data, published in a searchable archive called “Icepick” by the nonprofit organisation Distributed Denial of Secrets, reportedly also reveals information about surveillance programmes, undercover operations and access to internal government systems.

According to reports, a group calling itself the Department of Peace claimed responsibility for obtaining the records through the department’s employee login system. However, the full circumstances of the alleged breach remain under scrutiny.

The exposure has raised serious concerns about the safety of federal employees, their families and ongoing investigations. Security experts have warned that the information could potentially be exploited for targeted impersonation, cyberattacks or attempts to compromise sensitive operations.

The US Department of Homeland Security said it was aware of a potential breach and was working to address the situation and protect its personnel. Meanwhile, identity-management company Okta said it had no evidence that its own systems or data had been compromised.

The incident has renewed concerns over cybersecurity and the protection of sensitive government information amid heightened scrutiny of US immigration enforcement operations.
