In a heartwarming initiative to promote the cause of the girl child, the Department of Social Welfare, Poonch, today organized a special distribution drive of Baby Care Kits for newly born baby girls at District Hospital Poonch under the flagship programme “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP).
The drive was led by District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Poonch, Mr. Khalil A. Banday, in the esteemed presence of Dr. Mohammed Shafiq Chohan, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Poonch. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from hospital staff, social welfare officials, and families of the newborns.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Banday highlighted the importance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, which aims to improve the declining child sex ratio and ensure the survival, protection, and education of the girl child. He emphasized that such initiatives not only extend immediate support to mothers and newborn girls but also send a strong message of equality and empowerment.
Dr. Mohammed Shafiq Chohan appreciated the efforts of the Social Welfare Department and reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to supporting government programmes that focus on maternal and child welfare. He lauded the initiative as a step toward sensitizing the community about the value and dignity of the girl child.
During the drive, baby kits containing essential items for infant care and hygiene were handed over to the mothers of newly born girls. The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the department for this thoughtful gesture and the continued efforts to uplift the status of women and children in society.
The Department of Social Welfare, Poonch, reiterated its commitment to furthering the objectives of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao through sustained awareness programmes, community outreach, and empowerment initiatives aimed at strengthening the social fabric and promoting gender equality.
