NEW DELHI, Mar 30: Delhi Police’s Special Cell on Monday arrested a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba operative from the Ghazipur area, officials said.

The accused, identified as Shabbir Ahmad Lone, was allegedly working as a sleeper cell member and had pasted anti-national posters at multiple locations.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the module was being operated at the behest of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),” an officer said.

Authorities said they recovered currency from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, and India from him.

Shabbir Ahmad Lone, also known as Raja and Kashmiri, hails from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, and was previously arrested by the Special Cell in 2007 with a large cache of arms, including an AK-47 rifle and grenades. He was lodged in Tihar Jail until 2018.

Police sources added that he had links with Hafiz Saeed and Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and had received terror training in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He is currently under interrogation. (Agency)
