According to an official statement, the committee has prepared a detailed questionnaire to collect relevant information from states and UTs in advance, ensuring its field visits are more comprehensive and productive.

Appreciating the committee’s approach, Amit Shah directed Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to extend full administrative support for its day-to-day functioning and nationwide visits. He also urged the panel to submit its recommendations at the earliest.

The committee was constituted by the Central Government following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the High-powered Demography Mission on August 15, 2025. It has been tasked with scientifically studying demographic changes arising from illegal immigration and other abnormal factors, identifying their causes, and recommending suitable policy, legislative and administrative measures.

Besides Justice Navlekar, the committee includes Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, former IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, former IPS officer Balaji Srivastava, and PMEAC member Shamika Ravi.(Agencies)
