KULGAM, MAY 11: Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam on Monday chaired a review meeting at the Mini Secretariat Kulgam to assess the implementation of the “Classes of Joy” programme in the district.
The meeting was attended by officers of the Education Department, district coordinators, resource persons, and members of the Pratham team.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress and performance of the programme based on the recently conducted baseline assessment of students from Classes 3rd to 5th. Discussions focused on identifying learning gaps and introducing targeted interventions to improve educational outcomes.
Emphasising the importance of foundational learning, Shahzad Alam directed all stakeholders to effectively implement Pratham’s Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach to address learning loss among children and improve basic academic competencies.
The meeting also highlighted the need for assigning dedicated teachers for English and Mathematics in schools to ensure smooth execution of the TaRL methodology. Officials were directed to ensure regular academic support, continuous practice sessions, and periodic assessments for students.
Issues related to the availability of teaching-learning material, monitoring of schools, and timely supervision were also discussed in detail.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of coordinated efforts and regular monitoring at all levels to achieve the desired learning outcomes ahead of the endline assessment scheduled for September and October.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to improve students’ performance and strengthen the overall quality of education in the district.
