KULGAM, MAY 11: As part of the ongoing activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam on Monday inaugurated a basketball tournament at Manzgam aimed at promoting sports and creating awareness against drug abuse among youth.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said sports and constructive extracurricular activities play a vital role in guiding youth away from substance abuse and encouraging a disciplined, healthy lifestyle. He added that such initiatives provide a positive platform for young people to channel their energy and talent productively.
He also urged youth to actively participate in sports and social awareness programmes to help build a healthier and drug-free society.
Officials informed that 16 teams are participating in the tournament, reflecting strong enthusiasm among local youth towards the anti-drug campaign through sports-based engagement.
The event was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan, Tehsildar D.H. Pora, and other district officers.
