Srinagar Police have registered an FIR against certain individuals for allegedly circulating secessionist propaganda and related content across digital and social media platforms, with the intent to incite unlawful activities that could be prejudicial to peace, sovereignty, and integrity of India.
Police sources said credible inputs were received regarding the circulation of videos and other material promoting separatist ideology and spreading misinformation through online platforms. Acting on these inputs, a case was registered at Cyber Police Station Srinagar.
Preliminary inquiry suggested that the content circulation was a deliberate attempt to promote separatist and secessionist narratives on digital platforms. Authorities said such activities had the potential to incite public disaffection, disturb public order, and undermine national integration.
Officials further stated that prima facie offences under Sections 152, 196(1), and 353(1)(b), (c), and (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita were established. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 has been registered at Cyber Police Station Srinagar, and investigation has been initiated.
Police have also advised the public to avoid creating, sharing, or circulating unlawful content on social media and digital platforms, warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in such activities.
