Jammu, Feb 19: Congress MLAs Irfan Lone and Iftikhar Ahmed on Thursday staged a protest over the alleged harassment of Kashmiris outside Jammu and Kashmir, urging authorities to immediately curb such incidents.
Holding a pamphlet that read “Stop Harassment of Kashmiris,” Lone, along with Ahmed, demonstrated on the stairs of the Assembly. They were also joined by MLAs from Rajouri in expressing solidarity.
Referring to the reported harassment of Kashmiri nursing students at a university in Rajasthan, the legislators said they would raise the matter in the House. They alleged that the students were assaulted during a protest related to course recognition, leaving four of them injured. A female student was also reportedly manhandled.
The two MLAs appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene and ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiris living outside the Union Territory. (Agency)
