Jammu, January 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday celebrated its victory in the Mumbai civic body elections at the BJP headquarters in Jammu. Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, along with senior party leaders and workers, took part in the celebrations and distributed sweets to mark the occasion.
Party leaders described the win in the Maharashtra municipal elections 2026 as a significant mandate in favour of development and good governance, boosting morale among workers in the region.
According to early trends from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and the BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) alliance — the Mahayuti — secured a commanding lead in Mumbai. The BJP led in around 90 of the 227 wards, while the Mahayuti alliance together led in about 128 wards, positioning it comfortably ahead of rival groupings. Opposition alliances trailed with significantly fewer leads, with Congress and others recording far smaller numbers in the civic results.

Taking to social media, Sunil Sharma said that the BJP’s decisive victory reflects the people’s trust in the party’s vision for strengthening urban local bodies. “This verdict is a clear mandate for development, good governance, and accountable leadership. It shows people’s faith in BJP’s commitment to serve citizens with honesty and efficiency,” he stated.
Senior BJP leaders present on the occasion said the electoral success would further motivate the party to continue its focus on development-oriented policies and responsive governance at all levels.
