Baramulla, May 5: District Baramulla clinched the UT-Level Under-17 League of Classics Cricket Tournament title with a commanding performance against District Anantnag in the final held at Kishtwar.
The tournament, organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) J&K under the supervision of Director General Anuradha Gupta, witnessed intense competition among top young cricketing talent from across the Union Territory.
In the final match, Baramulla won the toss and opted to field first—a decision that proved decisive. The bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance, restricting Anantnag to 119 runs in 18 overs.
Captain Tanzeel Nabi led from the front with an outstanding spell, picking up four crucial wickets. He was well supported by Shah Aasan, who claimed three wickets, while Asim added two more to keep the opposition under pressure throughout the innings.
Chasing the target, Baramulla’s batting lineup showed composure and control. Aasan Bhat top-scored with a vital 31 runs, while Irfan contributed 27 runs. Aasin added 24 runs, and Rizwan chipped in with 16, guiding the team to a comfortable victory.
The win highlights the team’s strong coordination, discipline, and consistent performance throughout the tournament, bringing laurels to District Baramulla.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer Baramulla, Sheikh Shafqat Iqbal, congratulated the players for their remarkable achievement and praised their dedication and sportsmanship. He also acknowledged the efforts of coaches and support staff in nurturing young talent.
The victory reinforces Baramulla’s growing stature in cricket at the UT level and reflects the success of structured sports development initiatives in the region.
