Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured full support from the Central government to tackle the situation caused by heavy rainfall across the Union Territory.
Speaking in Srinagar, Abdullah said the Chenab Valley and Kathua were among the worst-affected areas. He added that Amit Shah spoke to him over the phone, reviewed the situation, and assured all possible assistance if required.
Heavy rain triggered flash floods in parts of the Chenab Valley, disrupting road connectivity in Doda district and damaging infrastructure at the 540 MW Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar. National Highway-244 was also blocked at Premnagar due to debris and floodwaters, leaving several vehicles stranded. Restoration work is underway, while pilgrims and commuters have been advised to avoid the affected route until it is declared safe.(AGENCIES)
