AIIMS Jammu Becomes First in Region to Offer Vitrectomy Services, Successfully Performs Advanced Eye Surgeries
Jammu, Mar 22: AIIMS Jammu, located in Vijaypur, has marked a significant medical milestone by becoming the first hospital in the region to provide vitrectomy services. The Ophthalmology Department successfully conducted its first vitrectomy surgeries, a breakthrough in specialized eye care.
AIIMS Jammu Director Dr. Shakti Gupta highlighted the achievement, stating, “AIIMS Jammu is now the first hospital in the region to offer such advanced surgical care in the vitreo-retina specialty. We remain committed to providing state-of-the-art medical services.”
The first vitrectomy procedure was performed by Dr. Nitin Kumar, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Another patient, suffering from vitreous hemorrhage due to trauma, was successfully treated by Dr. Ridham Nanda, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. The initiative was led by Dr. Bhavani Raina, Head and Additional Professor of the Ophthalmology Department, who played a key role in planning and executing the surgeries.
Dr. Gupta praised the dedicated efforts of the ophthalmology team, stating that the introduction of vitrectomy services reflects AIIMS Jammu’s mission to provide specialized healthcare. He further assured that vitrectomy surgeries will now be a regular part of AIIMS Jammu’s services, ensuring that advanced ophthalmic care is accessible to the common masses.
With this development, AIIMS Jammu aims to expand its ophthalmology services, reducing the need for patients to seek specialized treatment outside the region.
