NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh responded to the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling it “the end of an era” and emphasizing the longstanding ties between India and Iran.

In a post on X, Singh wrote, “The passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader marks the end of an era. India has lost a trusted friend. Humble tribute to Khomeini ji. Iran is a traditional ally of India, consistently opposing Pakistan and supporting India. It has also contributed to India’s energy security.”

He further stated, “At this critical time, the Indian government must clarify its position, or else the tyranny of the global dictator, America, will spread across the world.”

Meanwhile, Iran has begun 40 days of public mourning following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to Iranian state media.

The death came after strikes by the US and Israel (Operation Epic Fury/Lion’s Roar) on Saturday. The Supreme Leader’s office has announced a period of national mourning, with flags at half-mast and public gatherings planned to pay tribute, marking the end of a 37-year chapter in the Islamic Republic’s history.

Ayatollah Khamenei, who succeeded the founder of the Iranian Revolution, Ruhollah Khomeini, had led the country since 1989 with a policy of firm resistance to Western influence.

Authorities have increased security nationwide, especially in major cities like Tehran, to maintain order and ensure public safety.

All eyes are now on the process of selecting Khamenei’s successor, with speculation over potential candidates and how the transition may shape Iran’s future leadership. (Sources)
