New Delhi: Several senior lawyers, including Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan, joined protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday in demonstrations calling for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protests are linked to concerns raised over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The demonstrations followed large-scale detentions by Delhi Police during Friday’s protest, when opposition groups, student organisations and civil-society activists attempted to gather at Jantar Mantar. Police subsequently registered three FIRs in connection with the protests.

Sibal has separately called for Kumar’s removal and raised questions about the decision-making process within the Election Commission, while Bhushan has been among the organisers and participants seeking accountability over the SIR exercise. These are their stated positions, not established findings by a court or election authority.
