Kashmir: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appears to be facing growing internal dissent in Jammu & Kashmir, with several party leaders and workers announcing their resignations and citing concerns over organisational functioning, transparency and unfulfilled commitments.
According to resignation statements shared publicly, several individuals associated with the party have announced that they are stepping down from their positions or quitting the party’s basic membership.
Among those named in the statements are Nazir Ahmad Bhat, identified as South Vice President of AAP; Qubair Bashir; Arif Gull Anantnag, identified as a former Youth Vice President and Kashmir Province member; Mehraj-ul-Din Gujree; and Waseem Rashid Bhat.
Leaders Cite Organisational Issues
Nazir Ahmad Bhat said his decision to step down was not an easy one and came after careful consideration. He maintained that his commitment to serving the people would continue despite leaving his position.
Qubair Bashir announced his resignation from the basic membership of the party.
Arif Gull Anantnag, in his resignation statement, reportedly said that he had been associated with AAP for nearly a decade and had repeatedly raised concerns that remained unresolved. Among the issues cited was the absence of what he described as a proper organisational structure.
Mehraj-ul-Din Gujree also expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that the party had failed to fulfil promises made to the youth of Kashmir. He further raised concerns over the functioning and approach of some party members.
Waseem Rashid Bhat announced his resignation from the basic membership of AAP, stating that the decision followed careful consideration of his principles and convictions.
Hakim Rizwan Illahi Also Announces Exit
The resignation announcements also include Hakim Rizwan Illahi, who said he was quitting while reiterating his commitment to public service.
In the statement attributed to him, Illahi said he would continue to raise genuine public issues and stand with the people regardless of political affiliation.
Growing Questions Over AAP’s Organisation in J&K
The reported resignations have raised questions over the organisational stability of the Aam Aadmi Party in Jammu & Kashmir.
The concerns highlighted in the resignation statements include lack of organisational structure, transparency issues, unresolved concerns, failure to deliver on promises, frustration among workers and concerns regarding the youth.
It remains to be seen whether the latest resignations are isolated departures or signal a wider organisational challenge for AAP in Jammu & Kashmir.
