The faction loyal to Mamata Banerjee on Monday termed the claims of the rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) group as “fraudulent” while submitting its response to the Election Commission amid the ongoing battle over control of the party.
In its submission, the Mamata Banerjee-led camp rejected the Ritabrata Banerjee faction’s claim that the party’s organisational committees had become invalid due to the absence of internal elections. The loyalist camp maintained that the committees remain legally valid until 2027.
Addressing the media after meeting the Election Commission, TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee said the party’s constitution had been amended to extend the tenure of organisational committees from three years to five years. Since the last organisational elections were held in 2022, he said, the current committees will continue until 2027.
Kalyan Banerjee also alleged that the rebel faction violated the party constitution by convening a “special session” on June 22 and reconstituting organisational bodies without following the prescribed procedures.
He argued that the rebels had themselves accepted the authority of the party leadership by contesting the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections on the Trinamool Congress symbol, with their nomination papers signed by Mamata Banerjee.
The MP further alleged that the rebels bypassed mandatory organisational procedures, including public notices and consultations with ex-officio members, while attempting to form a new party structure. He termed the move a “fraudulent practice” and accused the dissident group of trying to take control of party offices illegally.
The Election Commission is currently examining the claims and counterclaims of both factions to determine which group represents the legitimate Trinamool Congress.(Agencies)
