Jammu/Kishtwar, May 17: Kishtwar Police has solved a sacrilege case reported in the Chatroo area and arrested five accused persons allegedly involved in the crime.
According to police, an information regarding an act of sacrilege by some miscreants was received at Police Station Chatroo on May 8, following which FIR No. 13/2026 under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered and investigation was initiated.
The incident had triggered protests in different parts of Kishtwar district, where members of various organisations and local residents staged demonstrations demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the sacrilegious act and strict action against the accused for hurting religious sentiments.
Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh said that a special investigation team headed by SHO PS Chatroo Inspector Rishi Kumar was constituted under the supervision of Additional SP Pardeep Singh and DySP PC Dachhan Nitish Sharma.
During investigation, several suspects were rounded up for questioning. Police said that after analysing technical evidence and human intelligence inputs, the involvement of the accused persons was established. Subsequently, five accused were arrested on May 15 and sharp-edged implements were also recovered on their disclosure.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sajjad Hussain son of Ghulam Rasool, Din Mohammad son of Ghulam Hassan, Mohammad Ramzan son of Abdul Aziz, Ghulam Hassan son of Mumma Rather and Mohammad Ismail son of Bashir Ahmed, all residents of Kawath Drubeel in Tehsil Mughalmaidan.
SSP Naresh Singh appealed to the public to maintain communal harmony and refrain from any act that could hurt the religious sentiments of any community. He reiterated that police will take strict action against elements attempting to disturb peace and harmony in the district.
