Jammu, May 14: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo today presided over a ceremony marking the renaming of Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS), Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, as ‘Shri Kuldip Kumar Badyal Memorial Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar’.

The event was attended by MLA Bahu Vikram Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Dr. Rakesh Minhas, Director School Education Jammu Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, Director Health Services Jammu Poonam Sethi, family members of late educationist Shri Kuldip Kumar Badyal, faculty members, and a large number of students.

Speaking on the occasion, Sakeena Itoo paid rich tributes to the late educationist, describing him as a visionary whose dedication and service left a lasting impact on the academic landscape of the region. She said renaming the institution is a fitting tribute to his lifelong contribution towards education and student development.

She further said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had taken the decision to rename the institution while inaugurating the statue of Shri Kuldip Kumar Badyal at the school last year.

The minister emphasized that educators like Shri Badyal serve as guiding lights for society and continue to inspire future generations. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and preserving the legacy of individuals who have contributed significantly to social development.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion also highlighted the contributions of the late educationist in promoting quality education and mentoring students with dedication and compassion.

As part of the ceremony, the minister unveiled the newly installed name board of the institution and also garlanded the statue of the late principal.
