Jammu, May 08: World Red Cross Day was celebrated across Jammu Division with great enthusiasm and active participation from students, volunteers, civil society members and government officials under this year’s theme, “United in Humanity.”
At Udhampur, the District Red Cross Society organised a symposium competition where Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa attended as the chief guest. Around 10 students from various educational institutions participated and shared their views on humanitarian values and social responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the role of the Red Cross Society and encouraged youth to join humanitarian efforts through volunteerism. Poshan Kits, certificates and mementoes were distributed among beneficiaries and participants.
In Doda, the District Red Cross Society organised debate competitions, painting contests, paper reading events, Nukkad Natak and cultural performances at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda. Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal flagged off an awareness rally from the DC Office Complex to the school campus.

Meanwhile, at Sub District Hospital Bhaderwah, a blood donation camp was organised under the banner of the Indian Red Cross Society. MLA Daleep Singh Parihar inaugurated the programme in the presence of ADC Sunil Kumar Bhutyal and BMO Dr. Varsha Sharma. Personnel from the Indian Army, CRPF, SSB and police participated in blood donation activities. A dialysis unit at the hospital was also inaugurated during the event.
At Kishtwar, the District Red Cross Society celebrated the occasion under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma, who highlighted the contributions of the Red Cross movement and paid tribute to Henry Dunant.
In Reasi, the District Administration organised a programme at the DC Office Auditorium where Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek attended as chief guest. Students, volunteers and officials participated in discussions on humanitarian service and the significance of the Red Cross movement.
Similarly, Government Degree College Katra organised a programme featuring a pledge ceremony promoting compassion, humanity and volunteerism among students and faculty members.
At Ramban, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan inaugurated a blood donation camp at District Hospital Ramban to mark the occasion. A large number of volunteers donated blood, reaffirming commitment towards humanitarian causes and community service.
